The Glass Mat began with a simple idea: the surface beneath your chair should move smoothly, protect your floor, and look like it belongs in your workspace.
Raised around the glass industry by a professional glazer, our founder learned to see tempered glass as more than a building material. Its strength, clarity, and precision made it a practical answer to a problem most offices had accepted as normal.

Where it began
Before glass chair mats became a category.
In the 1990s, our first glass chair mat was not sold as an office product. It was simply a piece of tempered glass placed beneath an office chair. The result was immediate: the chair rolled smoothly, the floor stayed protected, and the surface remained flat and clear.
Growing up with a father who worked as a professional glazer made that solution feel natural. Glass was familiar to us: its strength, clarity, finishing, and potential were part of everyday life. That early experience became the foundation for The Glass Mat.
We understood glass first, then recognized that it could make a better chair mat.
Why we built it
A chair mat should feel like an upgrade.
Traditional plastic chair mats are often treated as temporary office supplies. With use, chair wheels can form grooves, movement can become harder, and the surface may cloud or curl.
